Fishing locations Coliban River is a fishing destination located in Kynenton. Its a very long and narrow fishing system closely linked to the Lauriston and Malmsbury. It also has a terrific set of smaller channels which hold pools that Trout like to hide in. It is well known for nice size Trout also has a good amount of Redfin. As this is part of the local drinking water there is no boating or wadding in this River.
FISH SPECIES TO TARGET
Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Redfin, Black fish & Carp
BEST BAITS AND LURES
Scrub worms, Power bait, Yabbies, Mudeye and a wide range of soft plastics & lures. Click here to see our best lures and plastics when targeting Redfin.
When targeting Trout and Redfin fish as light as possible which will make the experience more fun and improve your chances. Redfin will actively take many baits or lures. To maximize your chances fish with a 2 – 4 or 1 – 3 kilo rod. The main line spooled with 4 pound braid finished with a good quality leader.
MOST PRODUCTIVE TIMES
Most freshwater species have a tendency to feed more aggressively at Dawn and Dusk. My personal favorite is fishing the sundown particularity in the warmer months
This is a scenic area which presents a nice walk. It doesn’t have playgrounds but can be a nice place for kids.
As with all areas that have water and high grass just always be cautious of snakes in the area.
