Welcome to the On The Edge Lures Breamin 45 Review by FishingMad. There is no doubt that the lure space is a saturated market, and there is no shortage of crank-style lures to choose from. What is a crank lure? These are hardbody lures with a rounded profile and diving bib that mimics baitfish, generally designed for targeting bream in shallow waters. They have a great wobbling action that doesn’t require a lot of added movement in the rod, and often, a simple, slow roll with a few added pauses works great. In this space, we have some established products, such as Jackall Chubby, Atomic Hardz, Daiwa Infeet Crank, ProLure Crank S36, Cranka Crank, and several others.
Since 2022, I have been using a new crank lure from “On the Edge Lures” called the Breamin 45. These lures are designed specifically for chasing bream; however, we have also caught good volumes of dusky flathead, bass, estuary perch, and Australian salmon. What I really like about these lures is that they are designed and tested locally, here in Victoria and Melbourne. Countless hours of R&D, testing and refining on finicky bream in systems like Gippsland Lakes, Bemm River, Lake Tyers, Marlo, Hopkins River, Yarra River, Maribyrnong and Werribee Rivers. On my most recent trip to the Gippsland Lakes, we landed two bream exceeding 45cm and numerous bream between 35 and 42cm, working the shallow flats as well as casting in open waters and to the edges, and employing a simple, slow roll, which proved effective. We have used these lures in bream competitions, socially and also while filming the FishingMad TV show.

These lures cost $11.95, which is brilliant value considering they offer a very similar experience to other crank lures on the market. In my experience, most crank lures on the market cost between $15 and $25. For example, Jackall Chubby ($24.95), Daiwa Infeet Crank ($23.95), Atomic Hardz ($20.99), and Shimano Pavlo Shad ($26.99). So that’s a significant saving without compromising on action and components.
They weigh 4 grams, which is slightly heavier than many cranks on the market, which typically weigh around 3.5g, and that extra weight makes them cast really well. The body profile is 45mm, which is slightly larger than other cranks, typically ranging between 32-38mm. The larger profile gives them a really strong, profound wobbling swimming action. Big bream seem to love this bigger profile and working them is easy without adding much rod action. I find they work best by casting, then a continual slow roll, and if you want to take it to the next level, add an odd twitch and pause. They dive down to 1.2 or 1.5 meters, making these lures perfect for shallow sandy flats, and you can add some downward twitches to get the bib to puff into the sand. They are a floating lure and also work great over the top of rock beds and reefs. I’ve caught some huge bream working them along structures and over drop-offs.
They have BKK split rings and trebles, as well as internal rattles, to play on an audible predatory strike. In 2025, On the Edge, Lures extended the colour range to nine different options. My favourite colours are Weed shrimp, Blue Gill, Tiger Prawn, Ghost Prawn, however my largest bream of 47cm landed on these lures was taken on the translucent ghost shrimp colour.

If you’re after an affordable crank-style lure that will catch you plenty of bream, then you should consider the Breamin45 from “On the Edge Lures”. In our extensive testing, they have performed very well and caught stacks of bream. They might be cheaper than other options, but they provide great swimming action, nine stylish colours and stand up to the rigours of big bream bites.
