That’s right, trout season opening in Victoria for 2019 will be epic. Local rivers around Victoria will officially be open from 11:59 pm on Friday 6 September for the trout season opening. Where better to celebrate than at Eildon. 7 tonnes of trophy-sized rainbow trout were released last year creating a buzz that spread throughout Melbourne and Victoria. Thankfully it’s happening all again. From Saturday 7 September 2019, the Goulburn River and Eildon Pondage will share in 2,000 large rainbow trout weighing 4kg and great released across 11 different locations just for trout opening. Like last year, they’ll have a combined weight of 7 tonnes, which is simply amazing abd the team at FishingMad are keen to get up there an be amongst the action.
Goulburn Fishing Festival 2019
It’s all part of the free Goulburn Fishing Festival that celebrates the opening of trout rivers and the new season. The Goulburn fishing festival will include
- The local fishing trade expo
- Guided fishing tour on Eildon Pondage with bait & tackle provided
- Cooking demonstrations
- Jumping castle, face painting and balloon creations
- Tours of Snobs Creek hatchery. Tours depart the Eildon Community Centre hourly from 10.30am
- Firework display over the pondage from 7pm.

Don’t forget that there is still plenty of other trout fishing available.
