The Hobie Lynx is an interesting kayak introduced into the market in 20243. It’s an underrated fishing vessel with amazing portability and surprisingly excellent stability. But it desperately lacks storage, however, with some creativity, you can turn this lightweight kayak that looks more like a SUP into an ultimate fishing platform and beast on the water. However, be prepared to buy accessories and after extensive hours on the water with this yak we recommend the following.

Hobie H-Crate
Addressing the lack of storage and rod holders is easily fixed with a Hobie h-crate and no doubt Hobie had this in mind when designing the Lynx as it has clips on the back ready to support the H-Crate. The H-Crate gives you 4 rod holders and plenty of room to store your tackle. I usually fit these with 3 rod holders, a net, a soft plastics case and tackle trays full of lures and jig heads.
Hobie Fish Bag ( small size )
By default there is nowhere to store your catches on the Lynx. This however is also easily corrected with a small Hobie fish Bag. These fit perfectly onto the Hull of the Lynx. They are insulated and will keep your catches cool for a big day on the water. If you do happen to catch fish over 60cm then you may have a problem on your hands.
Berley Pro Side Bro
The Lynx doesn’t have a quick access hatch like the Passport, Compass, Outback, or ProAngler therefore you need to get creative to have somewhere to store your terminal tackle like pliers, and scissors. The berley pro side bro fits perfectly onto the side of the chair and gives you instant access to pliers, scissors, and a small volume of soft plastics or lures.
Hobie Seat Bag
The pocket on the back of the chair that comes with the Lynx is so impractical. It’s not water sealed and only fits a very small volume of items if any at all, in fact, I only found it any use to store the rudder in between usage. By adding a Hobie Chair bag I now have somewhere with quick access to store my keys, wallet, phone, small tackle tray, sandwich and water bottle.
Carabiner Clips
One of my biggest frustrations with the Lynx is that the cavities to clip the chair and H-Crate straps into are not deep enough. I find myself constantly fiddling with these to plug and unplug them which can be mighty frustrating. You should be able to turn up to a location and clip these on effortlessly, but they are so fiddley. To make the process so much easier I picked up a 10-pack of small carabineer clips in the same colour that matched my Lynx from eBay which cost me $15. Now as intended I can clip my chair and H-crate effortlessly in minutes it’s a quick hack that all Lynx owners should do
Hobie H-Rail
The small integrated railing system that comes with the Lynx is fine for sounders and even rod holders however adding a full H-Rail makes this so much easier and lifts them from the surface making usability far easier. I can now position a sounder, additional rod holders and camera mounts anywhere I like.
