Keen kayaker Macca Chung decided to arrange a day trip to the southern side of Port Phillip Bay which has had consistent reports of snapper catches recently. Mac used this opportunity to test his new Viking Kayak Pro Fish reload series yak after trading in his hobie. A beach launch during calm conditions and clear water. Mac paddled out to roughly 7 meters deep around much boat traffic and anchored up. Using both pilchards and squid as bait on a double snelled hook rig it didn’t take long for some rod buckling action. All snapper bites surprisingly on the squid and no takers for the pilchards. Macca managed to catch 2 snapper between 65cm and 55cm. He also caught countless pinkies between 30 and 40 cm. letting the vast majority of them go to fight another day. What a great and productive morning out.
