The Revo ALX is back in 2020 with some noteworthy cosmetic and design improvements. Technology enhancements and durability upgrades will once again make this reel a really offering in that mid-market sector. In terms of Abu Garcia reel ranges, these are at their mid-tier level reels with Abu Garcia also having high-end MGX and MGX extreme reels and lower end roxani, black max and pro max reel offerings.
Designed in Japan for Saltwater fishing the latest ALX model incorporates Salt Shield bearings and a redesigned anti-reverse clutch mechanism to ensure robust saltwater ready performance. The Range of ALX reels pairs and balance nicely with Abu Garcia’s range of Veritas, Real Finesse, and Salty stage rod series.

Abu Garcia Revo ALX durability
The Revo ALX incorporates a new Salt Shield bearing concept with a water-repelling shield to greatly increase corrosion resistance, smoothness and long term durability in the saltwater environment. Compared to a normal stainless steel ball-bearing exposed to saltwater over a period of four days, Salt Shield bearings remain unaffected with no rust or salt crystallisation formed. This astonishing water repellency delivers game-changing performance and durability for saltwater anglers.
Abu Garcia Revo ALX Summary
The Revo ALX retails for $329 that offers a nice blend of durability, performance and affordability. The smaller sizes are ideal for targeting species such as bream, bass, estuary perch, trout redfin. The Revo ALX is a finesse reel but the larger models would certainly hold their own on our larger salet water species. We do wonder whether Abu Garcia could have tried to make the smaller 1000 and 2000 size reels a little bit lighter. At 190 grams and 200 grams respectively they are slightly heavier than some competitors 2500 reel sizes weighing around 180 grams. However, we don’t see this as a big issue as the rugged look of these reels matches the wight in hand. Somehow that rugged look and feel really suits this reel series and sets it apart.
