It was the labour day long weekend in Melbourne. Alan launched from Altona with a couple of close mates, Mark, Michale and Nahid. The weather was perfect, and the fishing was great. We first headed to shallow squid grounds towards point cook fishing depths between 3-6 meters deep. We fished this spot for a couple of hours and almost bagged out on squid. Red and pink squid jigs the standout, worked slowly whilst drifting and staying far enough away from the marine sanctuary. We then moved on to slightly deeper waters drifting around and caught some really good size flathead. We were using fresh squid tentacles as bait on paternoster rigs. Biggest flattie was in the mid 60’s which gave a great fight. We also caught whiting, pinkies and a gummy shark. Despite having a banana emergency onboard, the day turned out great.
