News has circulated widely around the fishing community this week that the very popular Altona pier is set for a major upgrade. This is welcome news for this very popular land base fishing destination. Our team at fishingmad are local residents of Altona and we see the immense amount of foot traffic particularly in summer. Meaning we have a mix of beachgoers, walkers, cyclist, swimmers and anglers all congregated into one area.

An upgrade of the pier will be an amazing opportunity to

  • Showcase what a great town Altona is to wider Melbourne
  • Improve fishing capability ( maybe extending reach to artificial reef )
  • Separate fishing traffic with general walking and beachgoing traffic
  • Accommodate more space for a growing population in surrounding areas
  • Accommodate more fishing space as fishing is growing thanks to target 1 million by 2020 and 10 million by 2022 campaigns

Key fishing bodies and parks Victoria have welcomed local anglers to participate and provide feedback to help shape the overall design of the pier. An opportunity for locals and key anglers to provide insight to make the design even better for fishing.

Your feedback will help provide key data for a preferred shape and design concept for the pier. Three design concepts have been provided and the local fishing community encourage to suggest why a preferred would be better via the Altona Pier upgrade survey

The opportunity to have your say will formally close on 19 August 2020.

There will also be community information sessions held to give the local community a chance to hear directly from Parks Victoria about the project and design options, as well as asking questions directly.

Those sessions are at the following times and dates.

Tuesday 4 Aug / 5:30pm – 7:00pm / RSVP here
Wednesday 5 Aug / 11:30am-1:00pm / RSVP here
